Bill Clinton: Money > Pride

Clinton's Tsunami Mission Doubles as Book Tour

News Max

Ex-President Bill Clinton won oodles of positive press earlier this week when he traveled to South Asia with ex-President George H.W. Bush to personally minister to South Asia's still-reeling tsunami victims.

But in a development that seems to have escaped the notice of Western reporters, the "I feel your pain" president took a detour from his humanitarian mission to boost sales of his memoir, "My Life."

Book-signings were hastily arranged in Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan, while Clinton representatives kept mum about what their boss was really up to.
For the Hong Kong event on Tuesday, tickets for a quickie grip and grin with Clinton cost as much as $280 each. The steep price included a copy of his book and his signature, but personal inscriptions were verboten...

Full article here.

It's amazing this hasn't really been reported in the western media. The trip was obviously supposed to be for gathering support for the tsunami victims, and it's been widely publicized. Under the radar, Slick Willy takes every chance he can to charge people close to $300 for a friggin signed book, something that most people do for FREE. I have a book signed by George H. W. Bush, free of charge. Clinton charges even at the WORST of times. Really though, is anyone surprised? The man has no soul.

Climate Physicist: Antarctica's Melting Ice Shelves Caused Naturally

Global Warming Cleared on Ice Shelf Collapse Rap

The high-profile collapse of some Antarctica's ice shelves is likely the result of natural current fluctuations, not global warming, says a leading British expert on polar climates.

This surprising finding is supported by analysis of data from the European Space Agency's ERS-1 satellite, according to Duncan Wingham, Professor of Climate Physics at University College London. The data, measuring changes in ice thickness across the Antarctic ice sheet using the polar orbiting satellite, show areas of growth from snowfall are as common as areas of decline.

Ward Chuchill's Life Further Crumbles

Michelle Malkin as well as the rest of the political world has begun reporting a new piece of evidence to crush Churchill's pathetic excuse for a life. Check out the two picutes above. The first is done by Thomas E. Mails and was published in a book called The Mystic Warriors of the Plains in 1974. The second is titled "Winter Attack" and is supposedly drawn by the loony professor himself. Forgery, anyone?

Still not convinced?

Same story with these two pictures. The top photo is "Little Big Man," by Charles M. Bell. The second picture is on sale on ebay, supposedly done by Ward Churchill. Doesn't take a brain sugeon to start figuring this one out...

And finally, as reported on the Factor briefly Friday night, when Mr. Churchill was confronted about these allegations by a news reporter, the reported was physically assaulted by Churchill. Go to this CBS4 Denver report to find a link to that video.

Univesity of Colorado, here's some advice. JUST FIRE THIS DUMB ASS ALREADY! Or, you can continue to watch your school's reputation be sucked down the toilet along with Churchill. Tough decision, I know.

Bad Economy?

Economic Growth Is Stronger Than Expected

My Way News
By JEANNINE AVERSA

WASHINGTON (AP) - The economy clocked in at a 3.8 percent pace in the final quarter of 2004 - faster than initially thought - and is now cruising at that speed or better. That could be good news for jobless people hoping for companies to increase hiring.

In the newest reading on the economy's fitness, the gross domestic product exceeded a previous estimate of a 3.1 percent annual growth rate for the October-to-December quarter, the Commerce Department reported Friday. GDP measures the value of all goods and services produced within the United States.

The improvement reflected more robust spending by businesses on capital equipment and on inventories of goods. The trade deficit also was less of a drag on fourth-quarter growth than initially thought.

Although economic growth in the final quarter of last year was a bit slower than the third quarters' 4 percent, the performance was still solid.

"We are now at a comfortable cruising altitude," said Lynn Reaser, chief economist at Banc of America Capital Management. "What is significant is that all parts of the economy were pulling their own weight."

Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND): “Fixing Social Security Is An Urgent Priority. It Ought To Be At The Top Of Both Parties’ Agendas.” (Sen. Byron Dorgan, “Fixing Social Security Must Top Both Parties’ Agendas,” Roll Call, 12/6/99)

New York Democrat Proposes Bill to Ban Hunting

Proposed New York Bill is Absolutely Criminal

The Washington Times
By Gene Mueller

New York hunters are in an uproar over state assembly Bill 1850 that would make sport hunting a punishable act of animal cruelty.

The bill, introduced by Assemblyman Alexander Grannis, New York City Democrat, would revise the state's definition of animal cruelty to include the "killing or injuring [of] wild game and wild birds." The revision would make hunting and trapping activities criminal offenses. The bill is now being considered before the body's Agriculture Committee.

Would it be cruel to hunt Assemblyman Alexander Grannis instead?

Missile Defense System Working!

Defense Missile Shoots Down Target

Associated Press

WASHINGTON — An experimental naval interceptor shot down a short-range ballistic missile target during a test over the Pacific Ocean on Thursday, missile defense officials said.

It is the fifth kill in six tries for the interceptor, called a Standard Missile-3 (search), said Rick Lehner, a spokesman for the Pentagon's Missile Defense Agency (search).

During the test, a target ballistic missile, similar to a Scud (search), was launched from the island of Kauai at 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The USS Lake Erie, a cruiser equipped with the Aegis radar system and stationed 100 miles offshore, tracked the ballistic missile and then fired the interceptor to shoot it down. Two minutes later, the missiles collided.

The SM-3 interceptor will be deployed on ships later this year, Lehner said.

Also involved in the test was the Aegis destroyer USS Russell, which tested some of its missile-tracking systems.

The SM-3 doesn't have the range of the experimental land-based national missile defenses located in Alaska and California, and it is envisioned for use in protecting allies or U.S. forces from short-range ballistic missiles launched over a body of water. Potential scenarios where it could see action include missiles fired by North Korea at Japan, or by China at Taiwan.

You notice how this story goes right under the mainsteam media radar, yet the one failed test was all over the news? Funny how that works. Thank God we're getting it working, and America is that much safer because of it.

Jobless Claims Down

Jobless Claims Drop to Four-Year Low

My Way News
By MARTIN CRUTSINGER

WASHINGTON (AP) - The number of laid-off workers filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell for a third straight week, dropping to the lowest level in more than four years, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

A total of 302,000 Americans filed applications for jobless benefits last week, down by 2,000 from the previous week on a seasonally adjusted basis. The level was the lowest since Oct. 28, 2000, in the closing months of the country's record 10-year long economic expansion.

The decline in jobless claims caught analysts by surprise. They had been forecasting an increase of around 12,000, reflecting a predicted bounce up after the impressive declines of 9,000 and 12,000 in the previous two weeks.

Analysts said the decline in claims provided further evidence that the labor market is continuing to show improvements with fewer layoffs and more companies deciding to hire new workers...

IRANIAN RAPE VICTIM GETS 100 LASHES

Iran girl gets 100 lashes for sex

BBC News

The UN has criticised Iran over its treatment of women and girls
A teenage girl and two young men in Iran have been sentenced to lashes for having sex.

The court dismissed the girl's claim that we was raped. It said she had sex of her own free will, the official Iran Daily newspaper reported.

The girl was sentenced to 100 lashes because her accusations of rape and kidnap could have landed her partners a death penalty, the Tehran judge said.

Sex outside marriage is illegal in Iran and capital punishment can be imposed.

The young men in the case were sentenced to 30 and 40 lashes each.

Senator Kyl: Make Tax Cuts Permanent

Make The Tax Cuts Permanent
By Arizona Senator Jon Kyl

...The top income tax rate today is 35 percent, but it will rise to 39.6 percent if Congress doesn't act. Other brackets are similarly affected.

A number of studies have shown that people choose to work less as their income taxes rise. The 2004 winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics, Dr. Edward Prescott of Arizona State University, has found that Americans work 50 percent more than the French and that "marginal tax rates explain virtually all of [the] difference." In other words, lower U.S. tax rates are responsible for high U.S. productivity, which has driven our economic expansion.

Failing to make the lower income tax rates permanent would have the opposite effect, discouraging people from working, saving and investing. This is particularly true for the nation's 23 million small businesses, which are by far the greatest beneficiaries of lower individual tax rates because most pay taxes as individuals, not corporations...

Read the full commentary here.

I like Jon Kyl so much more than John "Hillary would make a good President" McCain. I have no idea why McCain is openly embraced by most on the right, and yet Kyl hardly gets any attention (all the camera whoring McCain does sure doesn't hurt). I have no doubt that eventually the rest of the nation will start paying attention to this very intelligent, productive, and CONSERVATIVE Senator. I guess it's just hard for him now because he's often over-shadowed by McCain. Anyway, be sure to read the entire commentary, he makes some very good points.

Rush Limbaugh's Wisdom

"I think every American ought to see what the people over here live like. There's no poverty in America compared to what we see here. There's no such thing as destitution; there's no such thing as hopelessness. When I hear critics of America talk about our "bad economy" or rotten circumstance here, rotten circumstance there, it drives home the point once again that we're born into a nation of freedom and prosperity. We take a certain expectation level of prosperity and success for granted. You come over here, and it's indescribable to see how people live their lives and how they get up and what they must go through..."

-Rush Limbaugh from Afghanistan on his current week long trip

Drudge: Bush Praises Flat Tax

BUSH PRAISES FLAT TAX

President Bush, who has pledged to reform the U.S. tax code in his second term, today praised the flat tax implemented by Prime Minister Mikulas Dzurinda of the Slovak Republic. During their meeting in Bratislava, Bush, without prompting, made a point of touting the flat tax:

“I complimented the Prime Minister on putting policies in place that have helped this economy grow. The most important responsibility we have at home is to make sure our people can find work. And the president put a flat tax in place; he simplified his tax code, which has helped to attract capital and create economic vitality and growth. I really congratulate you and your government for making wise decisions.”

Get the latest at The Drudge Report.

Very interesting. It will be interesting to see if the idea of the flat tax starts spreading more across the American political landscape. I personally really like the idea of a flat tax, although I'm not a tax expert. I look forward to hearing more about it in the future.

Johnny Ramone: Conservative Rebel

Johnny Ramone: Rebel in a Rebel's World

The Washington Times
By Steve Miller

...He was a rebel in a rebel's world, though. Johnny Ramone was a fiercely Republican-voting, NRA-supporting musician in a milieu that is remarkable for its embrace of all things left.

Johnny went worldwide public with his partisanship in 2002, when the Ramones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At the microphone to give props to the people who made it all possible, he offered his own version of a Michael Moore moment.

"God bless President Bush, and God bless America," he said, clad in his trademark T-shirt, ripped blue jeans and leather jacket...

...For his news now, he hits the Drudge Report and Newsmax.com, Fox News' "Hannity and Colmes," and "The O'Reilly Factor." He listens daily to Rush Limbaugh and Michael Medved. In L.A., people spend a lot of time in their cars, and he uses that time to educate himself, he says.

His list of favorite Republicans should humble the Republican National Committee, or at least get him invited to a GOP fund-raiser: Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Charlton Heston, [actor and close friend] Vincent Gallo, Ted Nugent, Messrs. Limbaugh and Hannity, Arnold Schwarzenegger, John Wayne and Tom DeLay...

..Like so many other right-wingers. who are fed up with the media establishment, Johnny tunes in to the radio every day for some roiling rhetoric and to the Web for some news that doesn't seem to make the local newspaper.

"Hey," he says, perusing Newsmax.com as he speaks on the phone, "what's going on with these illegal aliens now?"

Full article here.

I AM NOT ALONE!!! It's no wonder the last living original Ramone probably has only survived this long because of his embrace of Conservatism. While Dee Dee was blasting his way to the all velvet heaven, Johnny was enjoying some refreshing talk radio. While his punk rock counterparts were embracing left wing fanatacism, he was well grounded in his beliefs and love for America.

Rock on Johnny Ramone. Rock on!

Clinton Wanted Social Security Privatized

CATO Institute
By Michael Tanner

According to three former top administration officials, President Clinton was strongly considering the partial privatization of Social Security prior to his impeachment in 1999. The revelation was contained in a paper delivered by David Wilcox, an assistant treasury secretary, Douglas Elmendorf, a deputy assistant treasury secretary, and Jeffrey Liebman, an aide with the National Economic Council, at a Harvard University conference last month.

According to these officials, the Clinton administration spent nearly 18 months secretly studying issues surrounding individual accounts and concluded that:

Individual accounts were administratively feasible and would likely cost $20-30 per year per account to administer. However, to hold down costs, individual investment choices would have to be limited until accounts accumulated some level of minimum balance, perhaps $5,000.

Market risks were not a sufficient reason to oppose individual accounts. Administration analysts found that long-term investment was, in reality, relatively safe. The administration also noted that the current Social Security system contains political risks that may well be worse than market risks.

Concerns over redistribution could be addressed through the adjustment of benefit formulas, matching contributions or other means.

Full article here.

So much for this being a partisan issue...both Clinton and FDR supported private accounts. I'll give you 50 bucks for every liberal you hear mention either of these facts in a debate about social security reform. You won't find one.

Counting the Days Until a New Attack...

Despite New Technology, Border Patrol Overwhelmed

USA TODAY
By Mimi Hall

...More than three years after the terrorist attacks in 2001, the 11,000 men and women who serve as the border's front-line defense are overwhelmed. Despite an influx of new technology, such as underground sensors and cameras that pan the desert, agents catch only about one-third of the estimated 3 million people who cross the border illegally every year.

Most of the illegals are poor Mexican laborers looking for work. But officials are alarmed that a growing number hail from Central and South America, Asia, even Mideast countries such as Syria and Iran. In 2003, the Border Patrol arrested 39,215 so-called "OTMs," or other-than-Mexicans, along the Southwest border. In 2004, the number jumped to 65,814.

Those figures worry intelligence and Homeland Security officials, who say al-Qaeda leaders want to smuggle operatives and weapons of mass destruction across the nation's porous land borders. James Loy, deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, told Congress last week, "Several al-Qaeda leaders believe operatives can pay their way into the country through Mexico and also believe illegal entry is more advantageous than legal entry for operational security reasons...

Full article here.

I'm really disappointed in the federal government's stance on illegal immigration. Not only Bush, but the entire system seems to care more about the politics of not being liked by illegal immigrants, than protecting our country from attack. Illegal immigration was an enormous problem BEFORE September 11th. Now it's a matter of life and death. Not only are there people coming in from countries known to sponsor terrorism, WE KNOW FOR A FACT AL QUEDA WANTS TO SMUGGLE NUCLEAR WEAPONS ACROSS THE MEXICAN BORDER!!! Why is our government, republicans and democrats, allowing this to happen? How can they live with themselves as they continue to do nothing to protect our borders?

US Intelligence Concludes Theft of Russian Nuclear Material 'Has Accurred'

Turkish Press

WASHINGTON, (AFP) - US intelligence agencies have concluded that theft of radioactive materials from Russia's sprawling nuclear complex "has occurred" and the country's atomic power plants remain vulnerable to terrorist attack, according to a new intelligence report.

The unpublished analysis by the National Intelligence Council, a CIA-based think tank that serves the entire US intelligence community, came as US President George W. Bush prepared for a potentially contentious meeting Thursday with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

Why I Liked Hunter (sort of)

...In 1970 Thompson ran for sheriff in Pitkin County, Colorado, losing by a handful of votes after campaigning for drugs to be decriminalised and Aspen to be renamed Fat City. Since his Republican opponent had a crew cut, Thompson shaved his head entirely and peppered his speeches with the phrase "my long-haired opponent"...

See a profile of Hunter S. Thompson here.

For all the idiotic, hateful, illogical things this guy said throughout his life, he still could make me laugh. He had quite a way with words and has obviously left a lasting impact on journalism. I think some people on the right may be too quick to criticize this eccentric nut ball. I find him almost too pitiful to hate, and when I read his work I instead find myself either intrigued, humored, or frightened. Rest in peace Gonzo, better luck next time around.

Subsidize Fox News?

Let PBS Go: It Simply is Not Needed

THE Public Broadcasting Service is collapsing of its own weight. While PBS executives and Washington politicians wring their hands over the network's inevitable demise, we believe there is a simple solution. Let it collapse.

Last week PBS President Pat Mitchell lobbied Congress for more money, and Republicans on Capitol Hill floated ideas for keeping the increasingly irrelevant corporation alive. No one seems to be asking this simple question: In a world in which 85 percent of Americans pay for either cable or satellite television, and with educational videos available in shopping malls and Wal-Marts nationwide, what possible justification can there be for a publicly subsidized television network?

Every excuse for forcing Americans to pay for a television network has been exhausted. Educational and arts programs are widely available elsewhere. C-SPAN does a better job of informing Americans about government than PBS ever dreamed of doing. PBS news shows are drowned out by a cacophony of competitors who deliver news as well or better. What's left? Reruns of British sitcoms? Simply put, PBS has no mission that cannot be realized either in the for-profit sector or by converting the network to a private non-profit foundation.

See article here.

Not to mention it's horribly bias and it's not fair that tax dollars go towards it. Imagine this: Fox News being paid for by the government. Just imagine the apocolyptic response THAT would receive. Let's get rid of PBS, otherwise I say the government starts giving the amount they give to PBS also to Fox News. That'll solve the problem quickly.

Reagan America's Favorite President

Gallup Poll Reveals Reagan Now the People's Choice

NEW YORK - A new Gallup Poll, released today, finds that Ronald Reagan is now the people's choice for America's greatest president ever. Bill Clinton comes in second.

While this finding may suggest that many Americans favor only recent presidents, it does represent a strong rise for Reagan since his recent passing. The previous Gallup survey on this subject placed Reagan behind co-leaders Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy...

...In this new poll on greatest president, Reagan drew 20% support, followed by Clinton with 15%, Lincoln with 14%, and Franklin D. Roosevelt and JFK with 12% each...

Full article here.

Hell yeah! I wouldn't be surprised if Reagan's 20 percent continues to rise in the coming years. Also, in 10 to 20 years, Bush will start being regarded by historians and scholars as an equal to FDR. You can take that shit to the bank.

FAT POLICE ARREST CITIZEN IN THE UK!!!

Fat Police Lock Up Chris

The Sun
By JACQUI THORNTON

...Chris Leppard was dragged off to a mental hospital against his will by meddling social workers and police.

Chris, 23, has been forcibly detained for a month because he cannot stop eating.

The authorities used powers normally used to detain mentally ill people who might harm themselves or others.

They locked him up despite the fact neither he nor his family wanted him to go. Last night Chris’s furious mother Anne said he has no mental problems and was winning his fight against the rare illness that compels him to eat.

Chris’s case was condemned by opponents of a nanny state. They asked whether others with life-threatening addictions could be next.

Mum Anne, 49, told of the agonising moment the ambulance came to take Chris — without warning.

She said: “Four people turned up and after some questions, said they were taking him away. Chris was really upset, crying, saying he didn’t want to go and that he wasn’t mental.

“We didn’t know they were coming to take him. He is being punished for being ill. He has a physical problem. He was working well towards losing weight.

“He asked social services to give him six months to prove he could lose weight. They didn't give him six days. I had stopped giving him money for food. For the first time in years we were getting somewhere. We had locked food cupboards, that was a big step.”

Chris, of Hastings, East Sussex, suffers from an incurable condition called Prader-Willi Syndrome. It means he can’t tell when his stomach is full and could eat so much that it will kill him.

WHAT???? England is ARRESTING PEOPLE AND FORCING THEM INTO TREATMENTS??? Are they going to start rounding up everyone with AIDS, cancer, heart disease, and every other fatal problem? Then what's after that? This is some WEIRD shit and I do not support it at all. It is not the state's responsibility to force this guy into a treatment. I'm curious to know if he's on government run health care. If so, this is just one more example of why THE GOVERNMENT RUNNING ALMOST ANYTHING IS A BAD IDEA. This is scary. Can you imagine someone coming into your house and doing this to you? I hope to God that's not where America is headed...

Hang the Traitor!

Man Charged in Alleged Plot to Kill Bush

By MATTHEW BARAKAT

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - A former Virginia high school valedictorian who had been detained in Saudi Arabia as a suspected terrorist was charged Tuesday with conspiring to assassinate President Bush and with supporting the al-Qaida terrorist network.

Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, 23, a U.S. citizen, made an initial appearance Tuesday in U.S. District Court but did not enter a plea. He claimed that he was tortured while detained in Saudi Arabia since June of 2003 and offered through his lawyer to show the judge his scars.

The federal indictment said that in 2002 and 2003 Abu Ali and an unidentified co-conspirator discussed plans for Abu Ali to assassinate Bush. They discussed two scenarios, the indictment said, one in which Abu Ali "would get close enough to the president to shoot him on the street" and, alternatively, "an operation in which Abu Ali would detonate a car bomb."

Full article here.

This just shows what type of people are claiming they were tortured by the United States. God knows where he got the scars from, even if he does have them. First off, he's obviously intelligent to become valedictorian of his high school, and he obviously hates America and President Bush. So why wouldn't he say he was tortured? What better way to get back at the man and country he loathes so much? I'm sure there will be exceptions always in war, but I think the vast majority of these abuse allegations are just attempts at trying to throw sand in America's eyes. Sadly, the ACLU and the like have done so much to corrupt the thinking of America, that the Supreme Court ruled these crooks deserve due process. This is war. These are enemy combatants. Now they want us to give them the exact same rules we get as Americans? We're not even talking about military tribunals, we're talking real stinkin' court. What kind of shit is this? How can our country possibily plan to execute the war on terror if they have to show all their information they have constantly just to try and keep someone incarcerated. How is this not crazy to any rational person?

Aside from all that, here we have a U.S. citizen working with the devil essentially. It's interesting this article doesn't mention race, I'm very curious if this guy is middle eastern, white, black, what. His name sounds middle eastern, but it could just be an Islamic name. The article goes on to say the maximum punishment is only 80 years. Why are we not hanging this guy? They should send him in front of a military court, have a military jury decide, and then take him out back immediately and hang him if he's found guilty. Instead this guy's gonna get to ride out the rest of his life in jail, for plotting to not only assisinate the President but also working with an enemy. To top it all off he's claiming torture (honestly, I wouldn't care too much if they did). How is this NOT punishable by death? I don't get it. What the hell is going on...

Check it out. This site has a really cool calculator where you can figure out how much more money you'll receive under the proposed Bush Social Security plan. All you do is put in your age, income, and a couple other things and it does it all for you. Very simple and effective at proving a point, which is that the new Bush plan will mean more money for everyone in the long run.

War Monger In Action

Soldier comes home a foster dad to Iraqi boy

MAUSTON, Wis. - Capt. Scott Southworth took his soldiers to a Baghdad orphanage in 2003 to befriend the children.

Immediately, a small boy with cerebral palsy befriended him, crawling across the floor to sit next to him. Within a few weeks, Southworth knew he had to bring the boy, Ala'a, home to Wisconsin.

More than a year later, Southworth returned to Iraq to pick up the 11-year-old and take him back to Mauston, where Southworth now works as Juneau County district attorney.

The single 32-year-old knew the alternative for Ala'a was life in a government orphanage with little chance of adequate medical care or an education.

Physicians, social workers and some politicians in Wisconsin all came together to help Southworth bring his new foster son home.

Southworth wanted to adopt Ala'a, but Iraqi law makes that illegal. He brought the boy to Wisconsin last month under a "humanitarian parole" that lets him make sure the boy gets medical care and goes to school...

..."I guess I consider myself a devoted Christian, and I finally asked myself what I would say if, someday, I encountered Ala'a in heaven and he asked me why I didn't come back to get him. When I asked the question, I could feel the shame that would have covered me if I had talked to him," he said...

Stuff like this really makes me think twice about not being a Christian.

Abortion

"America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men. It has sown violence and discord at the heart of the most intimate human relationships. It has aggravated the derogation of the father's role in an increasingly fatherless society. It has portrayed the greatest of gifts -- a child -- as a competitor, an intrusion, and an inconvenience. It has nominally accorded mothers unfettered dominion over the independent lives of their physically dependent sons and daughters. And, in granting this unconscionable power, it has exposed many women to unjust and selfish demands from their husbands or other sexual partners. Human rights are not a privilege conferred by government. They are every human being's entitlement by virtue of his humanity. The right to life does not depend, and must not be declared to be contingent, on the pleasure of anyone else, not even a parent or a sovereign."

HUNTER S. THOMPSON COMMITS SUICIDE

Troy Hooper, of the ASPEN DAILY NEWS, confirms that 'Gonzo' journalist Hunter S. Thompson shot himself to death Sunday at his Aspen, CO home.

See the Drudge Report for the latest news.

Wow... Poor guy. I disagreed with him on so much, and I really thought he was just about out of his mind. But it's too bad he became so upset about everything going on that he had to kill himself. I have no doubt this is his reaction to Bush getting re-elected and everything else going on that he disagreed with so much. Rough days ahead for the liberals, and Hunter S. Thomspon has officially jumped ship.

Drug War Attacks Our Wallets

CAGW Highlights Wasteful Spending In
War on Drugs

(Washington, D.C.) - Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) today called upon the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) to shape up or ship out by significantly reducing funding and re-organizing its high-intensity drug trafficking program, which has devolved into little more than another method for members of Congress to bring tax dollars home to fund superfluous projects.

“The high-intensity drug trafficking program was started to combat drugs entering our borders,” said CAGW President Tom Schatz. “But, with non-border states like Colorado and Nebraska receiving money, insufficient dollars are moving to the most at-risk states, like Arizona, California, and Texas.”

The high-intensity drug trafficking area (HIDTA) program was established in 1988 to combat drug distribution, manufacturing, and importation in areas highly susceptible to such practices. The program began in 1990, concentrating its efforts on five “gateway” areas for drugs entering the U.S.: Los Angeles, Houston, New York/New Jersey, South Florida and the southwest border.

There are now 26 high-intensity areas, including the Midwest (Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska) and the Appalachian Region (Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia.) The program’s funds were first set aside to help target high-intensity areas and bar drugs from crossing U.S. borders on land, but as a result of the overly broad distribution of funding, success in the most vital states has been negligible. For example, during the last 14 years adult drug arrests in Arizona—one of the original high-risk states—have increased by about 90 percent statewide, costing law enforcement millions of dollars that could be put to better use in homeland security.

“Members of Congress are funneling these dollars away from key areas and back to their own districts,” said Schatz. “While drugs are everywhere in the U.S., this program has been abused by Congress—the dollars are spread so thinly now they do little to help anyone.”

Methamphetamine labs area most commonly highlighted by members of Congress who are attempting to bring funding to their districts under the HIDTA. Although meth labs are increasing in the Midwest, California still accounts for 75 to 90 percent of the nation’s illegal meth production.

CAGW has highlighted four tiers of concern regarding the U.S. government’s war on drugs: media/marketing campaigns, high-intensity trafficking programs, federal efforts to squash medicinal marijuana use and the Colombian Drug War project. The war on drugs has cost taxpayers more than $25 billion over 25 years. However, a report from the Washington Office on Latin America shows that the wholesale and retail prices of cocaine and heroin at or close to their lowest levels in 22 years; increased supply caused by the failure of the war on drugs can be blamed for the reduced cost.

See Press Release here.

Just further proof of what most Americans already know. The Drug War is being run ineffectively, doing nothing but cost us more and more yet problems get worse and worse. Only the thousandth example of how throwing money at something doesn't solve the problem, something obviously needs to be done. They need to hold congressional meetings and completely overhaul the entire way we handle the war on drugs. If drugs are cheaper than ever, we're obviously doing something wrong.

I'm not for the libertarian position of legalizing all drugs, although I do firmly believe that marijuana should be legalized. Why are we locking up people for smoking a little bit of reefer? Not only does it cost tons of money to keep it criminalized, it just seems cruel and unusual. The government would be much better off legalizing pot and taxing it for revenue. Marijuana isn't nearly as harmful as say, tobacco or alcohol.

McCain: Hillary Would Make Good President

Maverick Republican Sen. John McCain said Sunday that his New York colleague, Sen. Hillary Clinton, would do well if she becomes president of the United States.

"I am sure that Senator Clinton would make a good president," McCain told NBC's "Meet the Press," as both he and Clinton were being interviewed from Baghdad.

Full article here.

WHAT????? Is he out of his mind? He either 1) Really believes she would make a good president or 2) Is only lying for certain political ambitions. Either way I don't like it at all. John McCain is NOT a good Republican. He's a bad Republican. He's done absolutely nothing for Arizona except show absolutely no concern for our illegal immigration problem. He's the type of guy always first to jump in front of a camera when anything happens, quick to benefit from the publicitiy. He cares more about what the elites and press think of him than his the base of the party. Some people call that being an independent, I call it being disingenuous.

Bush Social Security Calculator
